HINSDALE — Montini junior Austin Kline had an incredible summer to remember on the baseball field.
First, in early June, Kline was notified by his Broncos coaches that he had been selected academic all-conference in the Suburban Christian.
Then the Hinsdale resident was picked to play on Team International (USA) to participate in the Prague Baseball Week Tournament June 27-July 2 in Prague, Czech Republic. As one of the youngest players to compete there, the 16 year old played right field and batted in the No. 8 spot. His teammates ranged between ages 18-29 and most played Division I and II college ball.
Kline rejoined his Montini team just in time for the Phil Lawler Summer League tournament.
Kline played shortstop for the Glenbard South Regional champs. His leadoff double sparked his team to a 5-1 victory over Jacobs in the championship for a berth in the Elite Eight.
Kline will continue playing baseball this fall, locally for the Dupage Ducks 16U team, as well as Team MaxBat National All-Star Gold 18U that will be competing in two tournaments in Florida and one in Arizona.
