Community foundations impact lives

Strong community foundations help lives
This week marks a celebration of what is good and right about the United States. It marks the celebration of Community Foundation Week, launched in 1989. According to the Council on Foundations, “Community foundations impact lives, solve problems, and improve futures.”
In this area, we have two such community foundations. Both are leaders in not only directing needed money to some of our most important issues and needs, but in solving community problems and building the capacity of community nonprofits.
The DuPage Community Foundation was created in 1986 to benefit DuPage County residents. Its mission is to foster philanthropy, connect donors to area needs and build community partnerships.
The Community Memorial Foundation was created in 1995 to benefit the residents of Chicago’s western suburbs. Its mission is to measurably improve the health of the people who live and work in the western suburbs.
Metropolitan Family Services DuPage has been a partner with both of these foundations for years. Their funding has allowed us to provide mentoring to at-risk youth, mental health services to those who lack the resources to go elsewhere, and respite services to those caring for an older adult, just to name a few. Both foundations have helped to shape the philanthropic landscape. And, both have been leaders in impacting lives and improving the future for all of us in DuPage.
At Metropolitan Family Services DuPage we wish to thank The DuPage Community Foundation and Community Memorial Foundation for their leadership, compassion, vision and generosity. Because of each foundation, DuPage County is a better place.
