PE classes move west
Due to the scheduled Physical Education Center renovations, all fitness, weight training and pool classes and membership activities are longer held in the Physical Education Center on the College of DuPage campus.
In addition, the PE south and west entrances and the tunnel to the BIC will no longer be accessible. Select sports and class activities will be held in the Arena through fall 2012 semester only, and the newly installed east parking lot will remain operational through construction.
Fitness, spinning and dance studios will be located in the Open Campus Center on the college’s west campus at the start of fall term starting Aug. 20. There will be no aquatic activities available until the newly renovated PE Center reopens in February 2014.
Sampler Day
Saturday
Continuing Education/Extended Learning at College of DuPage will host a Sampler Day from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Aug. 11, at the Student Resource Center, Room 1110, on the Glen Ellyn campus, 425 Fawell Blvd.
Sampler Day is a free open house that offers community members a sneak preview of upcoming personal enrichment classes, including drawing, creative writing, conversational Arabic, cosmetics, introduction to photoshop, Civil War history and English as a Second Language as well as professional programs such as commercial drivers license training and massage therapy. Participants will receive exclusive opportunities for discounted tuition prices on fall classes and workshops.
In addition, college representatives from business solutions, lifelong learning, the office of student financial assistance, admissions and outreach, and registration, as well as faculty members, will be on hand to answer questions.
“When you’re excited about the work you do, you naturally want to share it with people. We’re thrilled to offer members of the community a fun day of free classes as well as refreshments in our new Lifelong Learning Lounge,” said Cristina Willard, program development specialist. “It’s also a great chance to show off our new location.”
Continuing Education recently moved from its previous location in Building K to a newly remodeled area on the first floor of the SRC next to the main cafeteria on campus. The new offices and classrooms are located in a state-of-the art facility to better serve students in the community.

Ready to begin
College of DuPage is encouraging all newly admitted students to sign up for a Begin@COD session through Aug. 16. These free sessions contain information on all aspects of college programming, student services and campus life.
Begin@COD sessions are offered Mondays at 1 p.m.; Tuesdays at 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.; Wednesdays at 3 p.m. and 6 p.m.; and Thursdays at 10 a.m.
Each session begins with a video that covers educational opportunities and campus life at College of DuPage, followed by a presentation that includes information on developing an educational plan, choosing courses, obtaining financial aid, understanding MyACCESS and paying for college. The session concludes with a question and answer period.
“The Begin@COD sessions are a springboard to college success,” Heck said. “It is very important that students attend one of these programs before they meet with a counselor or academic adviser to formalize their next steps at COD,” Heck said.
To sign up for a Begin@COD session, contact Campus Central at (630) 942-3000 or email campuscentral@cod.edu.
