Jan and Frank Bomher of Hinsdale have been synonymous with Nazareth Academy since the first of their six children entered the school in late summer 1993. Not only have they attended several graduations to watch their children celebrate, they served on committees too many to count, attended scores of events on stage and field, and spent countless hours leading Nazareth from the perspective of the office of board chair.
In recognition of this, Nazareth Academy recently honored Jan and Frank Bomher during a luncheon attended by more than 120 people at this year’s Jack Wheeler Memorial Golf Outing. Surrounded by the beautiful setting at Edgewood Valley Country Club in La Grange on Monday, Sept. 19, attendees listened as the school’s president and the president of the Nazareth Academy Fathers Club recalled just some of the many ways the Bomhers have transformed the school with their time, talents and resources over the past two decades.
“Today we celebrate two remarkable people who got hooked by the gravitational pull of Nazareth almost 20 years ago and haven’t escaped since. In so many ways Nazareth and all of us stand on their shoulders,” Fathers Club President Bob Gray said. “Look in the stands in the Rooney Center or Valenta Stadium, in our classrooms, in our board room, in our state of the art auditorium, and in the communities in which we live. There you’ll see Frank and Jan pulling all of us closer and closer to this magnificent place Nazareth. That is why we honor them today. That is why we thank them.”
Dennis Moran, the president of Nazareth Academy, recalled for all in the room the generosity of time, talent and resources that has marked the nearly 20 years of the warm, intimate relationship between Nazareth Academy and the Bomhers. He thanked them for their countless hours of service and leadership.
In keeping with the generosity of these honorees and the many who have gone before them, all proceeds from the outing were added to the scholarship funds created by the hard work of the Nazareth Academy Fathers Club. These dollars fund numerous scholarships for students at Naz, especially mindful of those who tragically lose a parent and may not have resources to allow their child to continue at the academy.
Nazareth Academy, a Catholic, coeducational, college preparatory high school serving families from 55 communities and more than 100 grade schools in Chicago and the western suburbs, established in 1900 and sponsored by the Congregation of St. Joseph, values scholarship, service, spirit and unity.
