BURR RIDGE — Kohler Waters Spa in Burr Ridge isn’t just another day spa.

It’s a place where a pedicure can become an afternoon out with friends and a massage can stretch into a day of pampered luxury.

“We’re really about the experience,” said manager Miriam Huntley.

Opened in 2008 in the Burr Ridge Village Center, the Kohler Waters Spa shares a space with the Kohler store. On one side, customers can shop for a new shower, tub or faucet. On the other side, they can try them out for themselves.

Guests who come in for any treatment, whether it’s a manicure or a full day of pampering services, have access to the spa’s sauna, steam room, three unique shower experiences, and the hot tub known as the Circle of Tranquility.

“They are welcome to spend the entire day here if they choose,” Huntley said.

Kept at 103 degrees, the relaxation pool’s waterfall provides a constant, soothing sound of trickling water. Also available to guests is the cool dip pool, an 8-foot deep pool kept between 59 and 71 degrees.

Guests enjoy a cool drink, a comfy chair and a little quiet time in the relaxation lounge, located just outside the Circle of Tranquility room.

Every guest is offered a robe and slippers to wear throughout his or her experience, and there’s no need to bring bath products along. Those are provided, too.

The spa has 14 treatment rooms where professional massage therapists and estheticians perform a variety of treatments, from full body wraps and scrubs to facials and sunless tanning.

A favorite this time of year is the avocado wrap, which Huntley said restores moisture to dry winter skin.

“Your skin ends up really nourished and hydrated,” she said.

Seasonal products keep things interesting all year. For Valentine’s Day, guests can choose a Red Velvet pedicure or a Shades of Red manicure, both coming in February.

Kohler has spas in Wisconsin and Scotland, but Burr Ridge is the company’s only day spa.

Jean Kolb, director of wellness business for the Kohler Co., said the Burr Ridge location was carefully chosen to draw people to the Wisconsin resort, and vice versa.

“We know a good majority of our guests come from Chicago and the surrounding area, however, many consumers had not heard of the Kohler Resort,” Kolb said. “Our strategy was to put the Kohler Waters Spa in the Chicago area in order to build awareness in our prime market. It worked!”

It has worked so well, in fact, that it might not be the only day spa for long.

“This is our first day spa, but I cannot say it is the last,” Kolb said.
