CLARENDON HILLS — While the Clarendon Hills Park District’s Lions Park Pool closed for the 2012 season on Labor Day, recent weeks have brought a flurry of new activity to the aquatics center.
Construction teams are now on site at 100 Byrd Court, beginning work on the final two projects which comprise three new amenities at the Lions Park Pool. For the 2013 pool season, the existing baby pool will be replaced with a bubbler splash pad featuring pop jets, a fog jet, and an upstream jet. In addition, a new diving well will be added which will feature a 1 meter diving board, a 3 meter diving board and a drop slide.
All of these amenities are anticipated to be fully operational when the Lions Park Pool officially opens for the 2013 season on Memorial Day weekend.
Phase I of the pool improvement project involved a colorful water play feature which opened during the 2012 aquatics season. This structure includes a short staircase leading to a platform and gazebo area which serves as the entrance to the pool’s child-sized water slide. Four spray stations shoot cool, refreshing water from the top and sides of the water play feature into the shallow end of the pool, providing a new source of summer fun to local youngsters who enjoy the Lions Park Pool each year.
“The Clarendon Hills Park District is eagerly anticipating the opening of our diving well and bubbler splash pad at Lions Park Pool next year. These amenities will provide new and exciting recreational experiences for visitors to the aquatics facility,” said Don Scheltens, executive director of the Clarendon Hills Park District.
