CLARENDON HILLS — Nancy Ladieu moved with her two children to Clarendon Hills from Westmont four years ago. The short move for the New York native with son Jack, 11, and daughter Lauren, 8, came shortly after she was divorced; two years after she and her husband separated.
Ladieu, 41, worked in the finance world for 13 years, but joined the ranks of the stay-at-home moms in June when she was laid off.
Q. Why did you move to Clarendon Hills?
A. For the schools and the small community. I talked to friends and heard that the schools were very good in Clarendon Hills, Downers Grove and Elmhurst. I decided on Clarendon Hills, and the schools and the community have been great.
Q. What do like best about living in Clarendon Hills?
Q. What was your reaction when you lost your job after 13 years?
A. It is a lifestyle change because I had no real income, and I had to worry about health insurance. Initially, it was really hard for me not working because I had always worked. I started hanging out with some people in the community, and I’ve found there are some really great people here. I also had never been a stay-at-home mom. I enjoyed being able to spend more times with my kids over the summer.
Q. With your kids back in school, how do you spend your time?
A. I started really looking for a job at the end of August. I also hang out with some stay-at-home moms, exercise, and work on some projects at home that I never seemed to have time for before.
Q. What are the biggest challenges in raising two children?
A. Being a single mom, I have to sometimes be both the mom and dad, although the kids do see their dad often. I think it’s important to teach my kids to be respectful to people and just be good human beings.
Q. What’s the most difficult aspect of being a divorced mom?
A. Not being included in certain social events because often they are for couples.
