The opening of Clarendon Hills’ newest restaurant has been delayed for another six to eight weeks.

Longtime Clarendon Hills resident Shane Johnson said Monday he was hoping to have the village’s newest restaurant, Lindy’s, open by now. But renovation of the storefront in which Lindy’s will open, at 34 S. Prospect Ave., is taking longer than originally expected, said Johnson, former branch manager of Midamerica Bank in Clarendon Hills.

Lindy’s will be the first family-style restaurant in downtown Clarendon Hills since Town Kitchen closed about five years ago. It was located at 31 S. Prospect Ave., currently the site of Redd Herring Food & Wine.

Johnson said the menu at Lindy’s will include pizza, pasta, broasted chicken, burgers and home-made Italian beef among its offerings.

“We’ll also be open for breakfast,” Johnson said.

“Clarendon Hills has really changed a lot over recent years. There have been a lot more young families with children move in, and all I keep hearing is that they want a family restaurant where they can go with their kids. This will be a place where families can go. We’ll do birthday parties and just have a more casual atmosphere. And it will be priced accordingly.”

Johnson said hours for Lindy’s have not yet been finalized; however, he did say the restaurant might be closed on Mondays.

Mike Brown, Clarendon Hills’ community development director, said he believes Lindy’s will be a good fit for downtown Clarendon Hills, for the same reasons as does Johnson.

“A lot of residents have suggested a family restaurant for our downtown,” Brown said. “We have seen a lot of young families with children move in, and they’re looking for a place here where they can bring their kids.”

Clarendon Hills lost Maijean, a fine dining restaurant at 30 S. Prospect Ave., when it closed its doors Dec. 31, 2011.
