At least five bands will compete Thursday in Hinsdale South High School’s second annual Battle of the Bands.
Hinsdale South Foundation president Brian Ormiston, said the event, sponsored by the foundation, is more about having a good time than raising money.
“It’s more of a fun thing for the school,” he said.
Along with at least three bands from South, Venom Is The Remedy from Glenbard North High School and Free Radical from Lyons Township High School have signed on to compete.
Competing from South are Aubrey Terrace, All Systems Go and Renegade.
Ormiston said the bands represent a variety of genres.
This year’s contest will take place on a single stage, with some upgraded lighting that he said will enhance each performance.
“We’re pretty excited,” he said.
Each group’s performance will be evaluated by a panel of judges made up of teachers from Hinsdale South and School of Rock, soon to open in Hinsdale.
School of Rock and Clarendon Hills Music Academy have offered up prizes, including free instruction.
Admission is $2 at the door. Any money raised will go toward the foundation’s scholarship activities.
The Battle of the Bands will take place in the school’s main cafeteria, where snacks and drinks will be served up with the performances.
Hinsdale South High School is located at 75th Street and Clarendon Hills Road in Darien. Competition begins at 7 p.m.
