After 20 years, the Clarendon Hills Park District swimming pool will be getting a face lift.
On Monday, the Clarendon Hills Village Board approved an ordinance granting a special use permit to make improvements over the next couple of years to the pool, located at 100 Byrd Court.
Don Scheltens, park district executive director, identified three basic improvements the park district is going to make.
“One is to put in a diving well with a one meter and three meter board, and also have a drop slide,” he said. “The second is to replace the aging baby pool with a bubbler splash unit, and the third is to remove the mushroom unit and replace it with a new play structure.”
Once a permit with the Department of Public Health is approved, the mushroom will be removed this spring. After another permit approval, the diving well and the bubbler splasher will be installed in the summer of 2013.
Trustee Mary Williams said she was very excited about the new renovations being done to the pool.
“It sounds like they’re going to be updating the pool and making it more interesting to a wider range instead of just little kids,” she said. “They’ll be able to draw from the middle school and the high school.”
