Family Friendly: Celebrate Earth Day at Brookfield Zoo

Your kids will discover how to help maintain the Earth at “Party for the Planet,” an Earth Day celebration starting at 10 a.m. Sunday, April 27 at Brookfield Zoo, 1st Ave. and 31st St.

Visitors will learn ways to protect animals, including African painted dogs, the event’s featured animal. Only 6,000 of these medium-size dogs remain in the wild. You and your children can see some of these animals during Zoo Chats at Habitat Africa! The Savannah at 11:30 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.

Kids can help paint a life-size cutout of an African painted dog on the North Mall from 10-11 a.m.

Other attractions include a Clean Air Club Bus where you can learn ways to help the environment, professional kite demonstrations by Chicago Kite, a performance by the band Green Thirteen and displays by eco-friendly companies.

“Party for the Planet” is free with zoo admission of $16.95 for adults and $11.95 for ages 3-11 and seniors.

A DIA TO REMEMBER

An evening of multicultural stories, activities and treats is planned for Dia de los Ninos/Dia de los Libros (Children’s Day/Book Day), 7-8 p.m. Tuesday, April 29 at La Grange Public Library, 10 W. Cossitt Ave. The event is designed to promote literacy.
