Clarendon Hills school’s science week culminates with fair

CLARENDON HILLS — The annual Science Week at Prospect School culminates from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Feb. 28 with the fourth annual science fair.
All Prospect students were invited to participate in the non-competitive science fair, in which all participating students receive awards. Students have been working individually and in pairs and have been encouraged to use the scientific method in their projects.
The fair is part of Prospect’s Science Week, which began Feb. 22 with two separate assemblies — one for students in kindergarten through second grade, and one for students in third through fifth grades. The assemblies were presented by Mad Science of Chicago’s West Suburbs and focused on space. The theme for the 2013 Science Week is Space: It’s Out of This World.
“The idea of Science Week is to peek students’ curiosity about science and enrich the science curriculum a little,” said Ruth Fawley, co-chairman along with Barb Maduzia, of the Prospect PTO 2013 Science Week & Science Fair Committee. “I guess we’re hoping to help create some future scientists.”
The Feb. 22 assembly included demonstrations about shooting stars, comets and planet.
